Rymansat Project & Alba Orbital Sign launch agreement for Japan’s first PocketQube, RSP-P00

02/06/26 – Glasgow, UK

Alba Orbital, the world’s leading PocketQube launch provider, is pleased to announce a new launch agreement with the RymanSat Project PocketQube Club, for the launch of the 1P PocketQube satellite RSP-P00.

The mission is planned to launch aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rideshare mission, deploying into Sun-Synchronous Orbit (SSO) using Alba Orbital’s own AlbaPod PocketQube deployer.

RSP-P00 represents the first PocketQube mission developed by the RymanSat Project PocketQube Club, a technical community formed around open-source satellite development and amateur radio experimentation.

OPEN-SOURCE POCKETQUBE DEVELOPMENT

RSP-P00 is a 1P PocketQube satellite (1P=5m ³ ) developed as an open-source platform. The volunteer team behind the satellite’s development come from range of backgrounds, from technical to management. This collection of different expertise is allowing this mission to demonstrate how compact picosatellite’s can support advanced amateur radio missions while remaining accessible to independent developers and community run projects.

SIX AMATEUR RADIO MISSIONS IN ORBIT

RSP-P00 will host several amateur radio and communications demonstrations intended to provide new experiences for the global amateur radio community

Planned mission demonstrations include:

  • AX.25 packet communication experiments

  • APRS relay and store-and-forward communications

  • SSDV image transmission from orbit

  • Codec2 digital voice relay experiments

  • Automated QSL card issuance functionality

  • “Space Post” message payload initiative

COMMUNITY DRIVEN SPACE DEVELOPMENT

The RymanSat Project was created with the goal of making space development more accessible. Through collaborative development and community participation, the organisation works to lower barriers for satellite engineering and real orbital missions.

This philosophy aligns with the goal of Alba Orbital and PocketQubes and showcases how these satellites are democratising access to space

ALBA ORBITAL

“We’re excited to support the RymanSat Project PocketQube Club on their and Japan’s first PocketQube mission,” said Tom Walkinshaw, Founder and CEO of Alba Orbital.

Alba Orbital is the world’s leading PocketQube company, having delivered more than 60 pico-satellites to orbit with launch partners including SpaceX and Rocket Lab.
