ALBA CLUSTER X LAUNCH

Alba Orbital successfully launched the Alba Cluster X mission from New Zealand onboard Rocket Lab’s 26th Electron flight (‘There and Back Again’) on 2nd May 2022. This mission served as Alba Orbital’s third successful orbital flight, deploying four PocketQube satellites, for a total of 23 PocketQubes delivered to space by the company to date - more than any organisation worldwide.

MISSION OVERVIEW

Onboard this rideshare mission were four spacecraft comprised of 5cm PocketQube pico-satellites for earth observation and weather monitoring applications developed by Alba Orbital and ACME AtronOmatic / MyRadar.

Unicorn-2f - Picosatellite dedicated to imaging the earth at night

Unicorn-2F is the latest addition to Alba Orbital’s earth observation constellation designed to provide frequent high resolution imagery of the earth at night and monitor light pollution across the globe. Night-time satellite imagery (or ‘nightlights data’) can provide vital insights into natural disasters, economic activity, socioeconomic trends, and even the impact of COVID-19.

McKenzie Intelligence Services, one of Alba Orbital night lights data clients, plans to use the data provided by Alba Orbital’s nightlights constellation to supply key insights for their insurance partners through the Global Events Observer (GEO), MIS’ AI-powered exposure and claims response solution for global catastrophes.

TRSI-2, TRSI-3 & Myradar-1 - picosatellite weather data constellation

TRSI-2, TRSI-3 and MyRadar-1 are three 1P PocketQubes designed to test and validate hardware for Florida-based ACME AtronOmatic / MyRadar’s Hyperspectral Orbital Remote Imaging Spectrometer (HORIS) constellation for weather applications.

Environmental data captured by the HORIS constellation will be paired with artificial intelligence and machine learning to create data-fusion products for the company’s government and commercial customers. Acme also intends to draw on data and imagery from the HORIS constellation to enhance its MyRadar weather app.
