Full Time Mechanical Engineer

Alba Orbital is looking to add a Mechanical Engineer to our small, highly driven satellite engineering team. Working with senior engineers the Mechanical engineer will be responsible for the design, analysis and development of satellites and deployment hardware, structures and mechanisms.
The successful candidate should have some experience in the design of mechanisms with an appreciation of space environments. They will create and help review engineering drawings, perform mechanical and thermal analysis and undertake environmental testing to assist in the verification and qualification of products during design and acceptance for space.
The individual should be a team player and be able to communicate effectively with Electronic, Systems and Software engineers, Manufacturing and Test teams to achieve common goals.
This position would best suit an early stage engineer with preferably a Master’s Degree or PhD and ideally some industrial experience.
Responsibilities
Design of mechanical structures and mechanisms including deployable structures to suitable environmental standards and customer requirements.
Testing Mechanical subsystems from prototyping to delivery
Deliver cost effective solutions
Plan and help deliver testing and acceptance of satellite hardware
Create test plans and assist with vibration testing to replicate launch environments
Document and report on product at all stages of the development process
Deliver clear assembly and test instructions to the manufacturing and assembly team
Work with the procurement team external suppliers for external Deliver mechanical drawings for manufacture.
Support launch activities
Skills Required
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical engineering or equivalent
Good understanding of mechanical design theory, structural and
thermal analysis including vibration and thermal vacuum conditions
Experience in the design of load bearing mechanisms with an
appreciation of reliability and safety
Experience using CAD software, preferably Autodesk Inventor
Experience performing structural and thermal and dynamic Finite
Element Analysis (FEA)
Excellent communication, presentation and technical report writing skills
Be able to work effectively within a team environment
Good time management and priority planning to meet deadlines and complete projects that run in parallel
Preferable Experience
Some industry experience would be desirable
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and principles (CNC, 3D printing, laser cutting)
Appreciation of design for manufacture
Experience developing rapid prototypes within an iterative design process
Small satellite or Space Industry Experience
Experience integrating electronics hardware and cabling within mechanical structures
Innovation, Perseverance and a Genuine knowledge of and passion for Start-ups
Knowledge of ECSS and NASA standards for space hardware
