Glasgow, UK - Hydra Space, a leading provider of Internet of Things (IoT) pico-satellite solutions, has recently signed a second rideshare contract with Alba Orbital, the world-leading provider of PocketQube launch services. The agreement will see the launch of an additional 2P PocketQube satellite as part of Hydra Space's expanding network of IoT pico-satellites, launching in late 2023.

Alba Orbital successfully deployed two pico-satellites built by Hydra Space in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) on board SpaceX’s Transporter-3 mission on January 13th, 2022. The launch served as a key milestone for Hydra Space in their efforts to provide worldwide IoT communications from space, and laid the foundations of their mission; a pico-satellite constellation specifically designed for IoT, to benefit sectors like smart agriculture, cattle monitoring, logistics, mining, remote infrastructures, environment and oceans monitoring, in remote areas where network coverage is not available.

The continued partnership with Alba Orbital will enable Hydra Space to expand its reach in the IoT market with cost-effective space based solutions with supplemental satellite launches. The 2P PocketQube, which measures at just 5 x 5 x 10 cm, will provide high-quality data and real-time communication for IoT applications to Hydra Space’s data customers, as part of a wider network of pico-satellites.

“We are thrilled to partner with Alba Orbital once again for this exciting project”, said Pablo Durban, CEO of Hydra Space. “This partnership will allow us to bring our IoT solutions to new heights and offer more value to our customers. Our strategy is based on very cost-effective, flexible and scalable space infrastructure. We will use this new Hydra Space satellite to support the use cases we are already delivering to customers in verticals like agriculture and maritime monitoring.”

The company has a strong proven track record of delivering high-quality and reliable launches, having launched 25 satellites to orbit with reputable partners like Rocket Lab and SpaceX, providing clients with affordable turnkey solutions for space access.

“We’re proud of our continued partnership with Hydra Space and honoured to play a role in delivering their IoT constellation to orbit,” said Tom Walkinshaw, CEO of Alba Orbital. “The PocketQube format provides a flexible and cost-effective solution for small satellite missions. We are thrilled to see more companies adopting the technology and providing valuable data solutions to the market.”
