SpaceIn Signs Rideshare Agreement with Alba Orbital to Launch IoT Picosatellite Mission in Q4 2023

Malaysian NEW-SPACE STARTUP TEAM UP WITH ALBA ORBITAL TO LAUNCH malaysia’s 1st Pocketqube via spaceX in 2023 as an in-orbit tech demo for ioT constellation.

Glasgow, UKMay 30, 2023 – Alba Orbital, the leading provider of PocketQube satellite launch services, today announced that SpaceIn Sdn Bhd, a spin-off company of Universiti Sains Malaysia specializing in satellite IoT services has signed a launch services agreement to launch to an in-orbit tech demonstration mission for an IoT picosatellite constellation. Space ANT-D is the first Malaysian PocketQube and will be flying on board SpaceX’s Falcon 9 Rocket in Q4 2023.

SpaceANT is a 1P PocketQube satellite that’s no bigger than a rubik’s cube, measuring at just 5x5x5 cm and weighing under 250g. The launch in Q4 2023 is set to be a technology demonstration of this concept, with SpaceIn planning to launch an IoT constellation in the near future. The satellite’s namesake ‘SpaceANT’ stands for “Space Advance Network Technology”, and is a reference to both the satellite’s size and capability.

SpaceANT-D’s primary mission is to store and forward sensor data using LoRa technology for IoT monitoring systems in Southeast Asia. The launch in Q4 2023 is set to be a technology demonstration of this concept, with SpaceIn planning to launch an IoT constellation in the near future.

IoT satellite constellations are transforming a wide range of industries, from agriculture to transportation. One of SpaceIn’s aims with their growing picosatellite constellation is to revolutionise reforestation efforts using space based IoT solutions as announced at the Langkawi international space forum earlier this week.

“SpaceIn aspires to spearhead the space exploration activity in Malaysia”, said SpaceIn Founder and Chief Executive, Dr. Norilmi Amilia Ismail. “We believe in the liberty of space discovery through low cost and commercially accessible technologies like PocketQubes, that are lowering the barriers to entry for those who wish to access space.”

“We are thrilled to work with SpaceIn on this upcoming mission, and excited to play a part in Malaysia’s growing space ecosystem” said Tom Walkinshaw, CEO of Alba Orbital. “Dr. Ismail and her team share our vision to leverage low cost space technologies, to deliver tangible insights to improve life on earth.”
